666 5th Avenue NY | Zara

666 Quinta 5ta Avenida Nueva York Zara

This major Spanish apparel retailer, which has stores at Lower 5th Avenue and the Upper West Side (Broadway and 66th Street), launched this prime 5th Avenue location in 2012 to take advantage of the heavy street foot traffic from both locals and visitors.

At each airy, split-level boutique, shoppers find sculptured blazers, slim trousers, and ethnic-edged pieces like breezy boho-chic tops and safari skirts for women; men can browse through the excellent selection of suiting, dress shirts, and knitwear. While most of the stock tends toward dressier, office-appropriate styles, casual sportswear like shorts, hoodies, and tees, as well as seasonal outerwear, occupies a solid chunk of the selling floor.

In each of the three floors, the store is organized around two long corridors or “catwalks” that lead to intimate boutique-like cubes on each side. Each space showcases a specific collection. The wood furniture is finished in neutral elegant colors and textures reminiscent of fabrics such as linen or silk. What’s more, Zara’s new flagship comes with a number of environmentally sustainable features, including motion detectors that dim the lights when there are no people around, electronically-regulated air curtains near store entrances and an energy-efficient heating and air conditioning system.
