745 5th Avenue NY | Bergdorf Goodman Men

745 Quinta 5ta Avenida Nueva York Bergdorf Goodman

With the original Bergdorf Goodman catering exclusively to female customers, this men’s store went through a renovation in 2012 that should improve the shopping experience there.

The third floor, previously a maze of interconnected shops, has been opened up, allowing light to flood into the store through exterior windows dressed up in mesh metal curtains. The design is anchored by two large areas on either end: The Heritage Lab (think cool Americana—visvim, Junya Watanabe, Kitsuné, and Michael Bastian) and the Modernist Lab (with a focus on European fashion labels including Givenchy, Rick Owens, Jil Sander, and Margiela).

Between the two is a shop-in-shop mecca where Dries van Noten, Lanvin, and Yves Saint Laurent have opened their first dedicated in-store outposts, alongside favorites like Prada, Bottega Veneta, and Gucci. Uniting these disparate elements is an incredible washed oak floor; set in a crosslike parquet pattern, it’s something you’d expect to find in a Jacques Grange interior.

The other major change for the retailer is the consolidation of all footwear on the ground floor. Billed as the Shoe Library, it houses a full array of luxury kicks—from a Lidfort lace-up to a python Lanvin sneaker. Shoes are on display in custom wooden bookshelves, and the space is lined with vintage sofas done up in mohair and leather.
