647 Quinta 5ta Avenida Nueva York Versace

Legendary Italian apparel brand and retailer Versace restored its current location back in 1995 – a 1940 building that acted as the northerly unit of a town-house pair built as the “Marble Twins” by the Vanderbilt family. This 20,000 square foot store covers 4 floors with the fifth floor featuring a terrace and a lounge. To make the whole space light, the ceiling was coated with white enamel. For drama, black lacquered wooden furniture and clear Antelio crystal can be found here.

The clothing empire founded by Gianni Versace in 1978 didn’t end with his murder in 1997. The brand—adopted by fashion-forward icons like Madonna and J.Lo.—has continued to thrive under the aegis of sister Donatella. In keeping with a company devoted to extravagant luxury, the flagship sports marble floors and ceilings, and crystal chandeliers. Accessories are spread across the first floor while men’s and women’s sports- and career-wear occupy mini-boutiques—with soft lighting and black panels—on the upper levels. (Appointments are encouraged for formalwear.) In addition to clothes, Versace’s gilded stamp can be found on boldly patterned dishes, glasses, and flutes made in Italy. Many of Versace’s classic fragrances are also for sale.
