The “Free People” store opened in 2007, consisting of a two level, 6,000 ft. space. It was actually “Urban Outfitters” during its early years in the 1970s – appealing then to the college kid crowd. With “Urban Outfitters” achieving its goal in attracting such young shoppers (complete with selling “skippy”-style footwear and assorted casual t-shirts), the store owners later launched “Free People” to attract female customers in their 20s – offering them a mix of contemporary and casual styles of apparel. In 2011, it started introducing its first limited-edition gown collection.
