El Solomon R. Guggenheim Museo conocido simplemente como el Museo Guggenheim está ubicado en calle 89 este y 5ta Avenida frente a Central Park. El museo alberga una colección de impresionismo, post-impresionismo, el arte moderno y contemporáneo. También se realizan exposiciones especiales durante todo el año.

Diseñado por el arquitecto estadounidense Frank Lloyd Wright y construida a finales de 1950, el edificio del museo es cilíndrico, más ancho en la parte superior que la parte inferior, se concibió como un “templo del espíritu” y es uno de los monumentos más importantes del siglo 20 en arquitectura. El edificio sufrió una extensa expansión y renovación desde 1992 hasta 1993 cuando una torre adyacente fue construida y de 2005 a 2008. La colección del museo ha crecido orgánicamente durante más de ocho décadas, y se basa en varias importantes colecciones privadas, comenzando con la colección original de Solomon R. Guggenheim. Las colecciones están compartidas con su museo hermano en Bilbao, España, y en otros lugares del mundo.

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (simply known as the Guggenheim Muesum), located on East 89th Street and 5th Avenue (facing Central Park), houses a collection of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, early Modern and contemporary art. It also holds special exhibitions throughout the year.

Designed by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright and built in the late 1950s, the cylindrical museum building, wider at the top than the bottom, was conceived as a “temple of the spirit” and is one of the 20th century’s most important architectural landmarks (rendering it a “must-see” destination for architectural students and academics).

The building underwent extensive expansion and renovations from 1992 to 1993 (when an adjoining tower was built) and from 2005 to 2008. The museum’s collection has grown organically, over eight decades, and is founded upon several important private collections, beginning with Solomon R. Guggenheim’s original collection. The collection is shared with the museum’s sister museums in Bilbao, Spain, and elsewhere.
